What We Do

The Hudson Valley CASH Coalition helps senior citizens and lower-income families by providing no-charge tax preparation assistance.  For many families, this service is critical as they do not understand the complicated US tax laws specifically, the Earned Income Tax Credit1 or EITC.  In the 2009 tax year, over one-third of our clients were not aware of this tax credit.  Our service helps ensure families get all they are entitled to receive.

But we can only help them with dedicated volunteers like you!

Our Success in the Community

Last year, 2,848 tax returns were filed, providing $2,866,772 in tax refunds to families living in towns all across Dutchess County.

Regardless of where you work or live in the county, we can try to place you in a town that is convenient for you!

Opportunities for Volunteers

Prior to tax preparation events, the Technology Coordinator ensures that the necessary computer equipment is properly configured, working and ready for use.  Once doors are opened to clients, they are are greeted by the Client Facilitator who ensures each client has brought the correct documentation and completes the intake forms. Tax Counselor meets with individual clients to prepare basic federal and state income tax schedules using a computer. Communication and Marketing Representatives help to spread the word about our tax service. Appointment Confirmation Specialists help to ensure that appointment slots are fully utilized. Learn more.

Note 1: The earned income credit (EITC) is a tax credit for certain people who work and have low wages. A tax credit usually means more money in your pocket. It reduces the amount of tax you owe. The EITC may also give you a refund.
